So this is happening on Tuesday the 30th at the Continental Club.
A few months ago, I told my buddy Adam that we should start a Patti Smith cover band. (Apparently, the less pejorative term is tribute act. Ya learn something new every day, folks.) It was meant more as a joke than anything else; I didn’t expect he’d actually want to do it. Lo and behold, the ball is rolling, and I am excited/scared as fuck to be the lead singer.
I’m not too worried, as Adam is a tribute band impresario. He’s got two active bands right now: Magnifico, a Queen tribute (who are playing The Action Pack’s Queen party on Saturday) and a David Bowie tribute, Super Creeps. A few folks from each of those bands will combine like Voltron to become Just Kids, so I’ll be in good hands.
Still…WE HAVEN’T EVEN PRACTICED YET, YA’LL. We have a few weeks to go, but in the meantime, I’ve been maniacally mouthing along to “Dancing Barefoot” on Josh’s iPod during every bus ride to and from work in an effort to memorize everything that isn’t on Horses (which I’m somewhat ashamed to admit is my only Patti jam despite the fact that I love her so). I’m sure my fellow riders all think I’m insane.
